Waitangi Day 2027 at Wai Ariki Hot Springs and Spa

COMMEMORATING TE TIRITI O WAITANGI THROUGH CULTURE, CONNECTION AND COMMUNITY

Join us on Waitangi Day, Saturday 6 February 2027, as we come together to acknowledge the enduring significance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi), first signed at Waitangi in 1840.

For three consecutive years, Wai Ariki Hot Springs and Spa has proudly hosted this community event, welcoming whānau (family), manuhiri (visitors) and the wider Rotorua community in a spirit of manaakitanga (hospitality and care), reflection and connection.

Waitangi Day is Aotearoa New Zealand’s national day, providing an opportunity to recognise our shared history, honour diverse perspectives, and strengthen relationships within our communities. Set within Rotorua’s geothermal taiao (natural environment), this annual gathering creates space to come together through culture, conversation and shared experience.

What is Waitangi Day?

Waitangi Day marks the anniversary of the first signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi on 6 February 1840. As New Zealand’s national day, it offers an opportunity for people across Aotearoa to reflect on the significance of Te Tiriti, learn about our shared history, and consider its continuing importance today. Across the country, communities gather in many different ways, from cultural performances and educational events to community celebrations and opportunities for discussion and connection.

A day for the community

Hosted by Wai Ariki Hot Springs and Spa, this free community event invites people of all ages to come together in an atmosphere of aroha (compassion), learning and celebration. Guests can look forward to a day that acknowledges the importance of Te Tiriti while celebrating the richness of Māori culture, community spirit and the unique identity of Rotorua. The event programme will feature a range of activities for families, visitors and locals, with further details to be announced closer to the date.
